Florida has already faced two major hurricanes: Helen and now Milton. But could there be a third storm on the horizon? As Milton makes landfall on the western coast of the Sunshine State, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring other storms and tropical systems around the world. Right now, one tropical formation could become Hurricane Nadine if it strengthens.

Several days before Hurricane Milton approached Tampa, officials warned residents to evacuate. Counties that were ordered to evacuate included Citrus, Collier, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota. While Orlando did not receive a mandatory evacuation, tourist attractions such as Walt Disney World and the city’s airport announced temporary closures due to Milton.

Learn more about the tropical formation that could become Hurricane Nadine below.

At the time of publication, the tropical system was named Invest 93L, according to multiple sources. If it continues to develop, it will be named Tropical Storm Nadine, which could then intensify into a hurricane.

Invest 93L is currently weakening in the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean, but there is still a chance that it could strengthen into a hurricane after Hurricane Milton hits Florida. The next name in the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is Nadine.

Current information on Hurricane Milton:

Expected landfall: between 1−2 AM on Thursday (night)

Sustained winds: 165 miles per hour

Gusts reaching: 190 miles per hour

Flooding: 15−20 feet

The current path of the tropical system is along the eastern coast of Florida. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced that «upper-level winds are forecast to become too strong for further development later tonight». Therefore, it is expected to dissipate.

«While surrounding conditions appear only marginally conducive for further development, a short-lived tropical or subtropical storm could form today or tonight as the low pressure moves northeastward to east-northeastward at about 15 miles per hour», - the NHC revealed. «Upper-level winds are forecast to increase later tonight, which should limit chances for further development».

If Invest 93L becomes Hurricane Nadine, Florida could face further destruction. Milton is expected to cause widespread power outages and massive damage due to its intense winds. The storm wavered between Category 4 and Category 5 several times before making landfall. Several tornadoes also formed across Florida just hours before Milton hit
