Hurricane Milton may have weakened from a level 5 to a level 4, but residents of the state of Florida should still prepare for its impact. The storm is expected to reach the coast just a few weeks after Hurricane Helen hit the Sunshine State. Now, as evacuation orders have been issued for several counties, residents of Orlando are questioning whether they should leave the city.

Milton is expected to reach the west coast of Florida on Wednesday, October 9th, in the evening.

Orlando is not one of the main evacuation zones. However, Orlando International Airport (MCO) will temporarily close on Wednesday, October 9th, the day the storm hits.

«On the morning of Wednesday, October 9th, Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Orlando Executive Airport (ORL) will cease commercial passenger and private operations in anticipation of Hurricane Milton, this decision was made in coordination with our partners», - MCO announced on their website. «The airport is not closed and will remain open for emergency/relief and humanitarian flights as needed».

Evacuation orders have been issued for the following counties: Citrus, Collier, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, and Volusia.

According to the Walt Disney World website, the parks are still «operating as usual and will continue to operate on Tuesday, October 8th». However, when the hurricane hits on Wednesday, some resort operations will temporarily cease.

«We are closely monitoring the path of the anticipated storm, and the safety of our guests and employees remains our top priority», - the parks' statement from Monday, October 7th, said. «Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating as usual and will continue to operate on Tuesday, October 8th. Ahead, we are making adjustments based on the latest weather forecasts and some areas with unique environments».

Disney attractions that will be affected include Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, all of which will «temporarily close at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 9th», - according to the Disney website. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will also «remain closed until Sunday, October 13th», - while Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge «will likely reopen on Friday, October 11th».

After strengthening to a level 5 on Monday, October 7th, Milton slightly weakened to a level 4 the following day. However, officials are warning Florida residents that the storm could still be life-threatening.

After Milton reaches the west coast of Florida, it will move eastward across the rest of the state until it reaches the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean
