Tampa, Florida, is preparing for the destructive impact of Hurricane Milton. While evacuations have already begun, many residents of the area and surrounding communities are choosing to stay put and weather the storm. However, the hurricane’s downgrade from a category five to a category four has caused concern throughout the state. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor issued a serious warning during a recent interview on CNN.
«Hurricane Helen was a wake-up call», - Castor said, referring to the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Helen. «This is literally a catastrophe, and I can say without any drama: if you decide to stay in one of the evacuation zones, you will die».
The mayor added that her «main message» to residents is that they «need to prepare» if they haven’t already done so.
«Do everything you need to do, and then leave the evacuation zones, which are currently zones A and B, and as we have heard many times — hide from the wind and run from the water, and now we are talking about the possibility of a direct hit with a storm surge of 10 to 12 feet. To put this into perspective, Hurricane Helen, which just left the Tampa Bay area a week ago, caused a storm surge of 6 feet, and it was literally devastating for many of our coastal areas».

Milton will hit the Gulf Coast of Florida and impact the Tampa Bay area.
The storm was forecasted to make landfall around 2:00 am Eastern Time on Thursday, October 10. However, some estimate that Milton could hit on Wednesday, October 9, in the evening.
Over the past few days, Tampa Bay residents have stocked up on groceries and gasoline for their cars. As a result, stores and gas stations have been left empty for customers. Others who have tried to evacuate the area are experiencing difficulties getting out due to traffic jams on the roads.
Milton fluctuates between a category four and category five and back to a category four, continuing to move towards Florida
