Hurricanes suddenly and mercilessly inflict damage.

Hurricane Helen made landfall on September 26 as a Category 4 hurricane, leaving a wide swath of destruction in its path as it moved north from Florida, washing away homes, destroying roads, and leaving millions of people without power. Now, Milton is expected to become a monstrous hurricane, posing a serious threat to the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Like Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in 2005, one of the leading experts in supply chain warns that this upcoming hurricane could be catastrophic for the western coast of Florida. «We don’t yet know the details, but it definitely has all the makings», - said John Davis, chief meteorologist at Everstream Analytics, in an interview with FOX Weather.

As these catastrophic events continue to unfold, let’s remember Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005.

Hurricane Katrina was classified as a Category 5 hurricane at its peak intensity. However, when it made landfall on August 29, 2005 near New Orleans, Louisiana, it was classified as a Category 3 hurricane.

Hurricane Katrina led to over 1800 deaths, making it one of the deadliest hurricanes in US history.

Andrew (1992): On August 22, Hurricane Andrew struck southern Florida as a powerful Category 5 hurricane, with sustained winds reaching 165 miles per hour and gusts up to 174 miles per hour.

Katrina (2005): Katrina made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in Florida on August 25, 2005 and quickly intensified to a Category 5 hurricane by August 28 as it moved over the Gulf of Mexico.

Michael (2018): Michael formed on October 7 in the Caribbean Sea and quickly intensified, moving north and making landfall on October 10 near Mexico Beach, Florida.

Milton (2024): On Monday, Hurricane Milton intensified to a Category 3 hurricane, and then quickly strengthened to a Category 5 hurricane shortly after. It is expected to make landfall near Tampa, Florida on Wednesday, October 9. Florida meteorologist John Morales became emotional, giving updates on Milton during a broadcast on NBC affiliate WTVJ on Monday, October 7. «An incredible, incredible hurricane», - Morales began, pausing for a moment.

«It dropped 50 millibars in 10 hours», - he added, tears welling up in his eyes. «I'm sorry — this is just awful», - he said
