According to a subsequent statement published through X, McKayla apologized to the gymnastics community, stating that she «had no intention to offend or disrespect any athletes or diminish their work ethic».
«Your hard work and dedication have paid off, and I congratulate each of you», - she continued in her statement. «After reflecting, I compared the 'Marta era' to the current era. I acknowledge that I did not fully understand the emotional and verbal abuse I endured under Marta’s leadership, which may have led to my hurtful comments. I take full responsibility for what I said, and I sincerely apologize.
