McKayla Skinner and Simone Biles are not in good terms, confirmed Jordan Chiles. The day after the US team’s victory at the Olympic Games in Paris, 23-year-old Jordan posted a photo of her phone screen showing that 27-year-old McKayla had blocked 27-year-old Simone on Instagram.

«When she blocks Simone», - Jordan wrote on the image on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, July 31. The day before, Simone seemed to hint at McKayla in an Instagram post, celebrating the team’s victory. Simone even tweeted, «Oops, I’ve been blocked», - shortly after.

«Lack of talent, laziness, Olympic champions», - the gymnastics queen captioned the post. Although she did not mention her former teammate by name, fans believed that Simone was subtly criticizing McKayla for her past comments about modern gymnasts.

In June, a video in which McKayla criticized modern gymnasts for their lack of «talent» and «work ethic» went viral.

«Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and depth just isn’t there like it used to be», - McKayla said in the clip. «Just notice how, I mean, obviously, a lot of the girls aren’t working as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic».

The former Olympic champion explained that her comments «don't necessarily pertain to the current team». Additionally, McKayla noted that modern «work ethic is different from what it was in Marta [Karolyi's] time». Marta was the head coordinator for American Olympic gymnasts and was known for her strict training methods.

«And I’m not defending Marta or saying she did things right, I’m just saying it was different», - McKayla added. «So anyway, sorry for anything that was unclear or seemed offensive. It was never my intention. And seriously, during the video, I was so happy for the girls, and it was so fun watching trials and doing a live with everyone».

According to a subsequent statement published through X, McKayla apologized to the gymnastics community, stating that she «had no intention to offend or disrespect any athletes or diminish their work ethic».

«Your hard work and dedication have paid off, and I congratulate each of you», - she continued in her statement. «After reflecting, I compared the 'Marta era' to the current era. I acknowledge that I did not fully understand the emotional and verbal abuse I endured under Marta’s leadership, which may have led to my hurtful comments. I take full responsibility for what I said, and I sincerely apologize. For me, the most important thing is for the sport I love to continue on a path of healing and provide a positive environment for all. I wish you all the best in Paris. I will be cheering for all of you! Go Team USA!»

McKayla previously competed as an individual participant at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and was an alternate at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Simone participated in both games
