The US team not only won gold in the final of the 2024 Olympics gymnastics, but Simone Biles also made history, becoming the most decorated Olympic champion in American gymnastics history.
The 27-year-old athlete has been participating in the Olympic Games since her debut at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016, where she won gold at just 19 years old and became famous. Simone’s title as the «greatest gymnast of all time» is well deserved. Throughout her career, she has accumulated five gold medals, one silver, and two bronze, totaling eight Olympic medals.
Despite a leg injury during the 2024 games, Simone did not let it hinder her from leading her team to victory, marking them as the fourth women’s gymnastics team in US history to win gold. This triumph was part of her comeback after withdrawing from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics due to «twisties» issues.
The All-Star champion had to overcome her own obstacles and now reigns as the greatest gymnast of all time. The three-time Olympic champion even has unique moves named after her: Biles (floor, vault, beam) and Biles II (floor and vault).
According to ABC News, former Olympian Dominique Dawes commented on the difficulty of Simone’s moves: «Many don’t even attempt them because of their high difficulty, high risk, and she does them with such ease and effort… It’s amazing to watch what she does. And she does it with a smile on her face».
Dawes further expressed: «It really is Simone against herself… That’s what makes her one of the greatest of all time. Back then they capped our scores. And now with this new scoring system, the sky’s the limit for athletes like Simone, who are so talented. And if she does a more difficult move on any of the different apparatuses, she will truly get credit for it».
Despite all the physical obstacles she has faced, from injuries to «twisties», - nothing has stopped Simone in her career. As she stated during the 2024 Olympics: «I don’t focus on the stats, I focus on the routines and on stepping out onto the arena and seeing how comfortable and confident I feel»
