27-year-old Simone Biles has become the oldest female gymnast from the US team to participate in the Olympic Games in the last 72 years. As she makes history, the seven-time Olympic medalist reflects on how she viewed her «older» teammates, such as 30-year-old Aly Raisman.

After qualifying for the US women’s gymnastics team on Sunday, June 30, Biles spoke to the press about her age, prompting her to apologize to Raisman, who was only 22 when she captained the team at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

«I definitely owe Aly an apology for calling her grandma, because, whew», - she said at the press conference. «I feel like I’m definitely much older now than I ever called her grandma when we were younger».

«And, you know, what time is it? 11 [pm]? So, definitely past my bedtime», - she joked. «So, I know Aly would be laughing right now. I’ve gotten a lot older and wiser. What was the next question? See, I forgot».

As the oldest member of the US team, she also explained her recovery process and how her body feels now compared to the Olympic Games in Rio eight years ago.

The 2024 Olympic Games are seen as a path to redemption for Biles after she faced a paralyzing case of «twisties» in Tokyo in 2021 and withdrew from most of her events
