Simone Biles has left an indelible mark on the sport of gymnastics.

The seven-time Olympic medalist is the most decorated gymnast in history, with 37 Olympic and world championship medals. President Joe Biden awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022, making her the youngest person ever to receive it, for her contributions to society as a historic gymnast and advocate for mental health, survivors of sexual abuse, and children in foster care. She has performed gymnastics elements that no other gymnast has done before — not one or two, but a total of five.

She has two elements on the vault, two on the floor, and one on the bars. The elements are named after the first gymnast to perform them in international competition, according to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Code of Points. The element must also be of a certain level of difficulty.

At the Paris Games, Biles has the opportunity to establish her own sixth element, named after her, on the balance beam. If successful, this would mean that she would have elements named after her on each apparatus.

But before the athlete continues to achieve even more high accomplishments, here’s what you need to know about her current five gymnastics elements named after the greatest gymnast of all time.

This element was the first named after Biles at the 2013 World Championships when she was 16 years old. It is a double layout half twist.

The second floor element named after Biles is the triple double, which she performed at the 2019 World Championships. This element includes two saltos and three twists in a tuck position.

The first vault element is a roundoff onto the springboard with a half turn onto the vault with two full twists. Biles first demonstrated it at the 2018 USA Gymnastics team selection camp and debuted it at the 2018 World Championships, where it was officially named after her.

This vault element was named after Biles at the 2023 World Championships. Biles began performing this element in 2021 but did not showcase it at World Championships or the Olympics until the 2023 World Championships. With a difficulty rating of 6.4, it is the most difficult element in the women’s code. Biles II is also known as the Yurchenko double pike.

At the 2019 World Championships, an element on the bars was named after Biles. This element, also known as the «Biles», - is a dismount from the bars that includes two twists and two saltos
