Simone Biles revealed that she draws inspiration from a variety of sources, even from her haters.
In an interview on Thursday, August 1, at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the 27-year-old artistic gymnast said that she was inspired to get a necklace with a goat pendant because of those who don’t like that she is celebrated as the 'Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T)'.
At 27, she now has a total of nine Olympic medals — six gold, one silver, and two bronze, along with her 30 world championship medals. So for the most decorated gymnast in US Olympic history, it seemed fitting to reinforce her impressive achievements with a new piece of jewelry, presented to her by her teammate Jordan Chiles, which she then proudly showed off.
«My goat necklace is just like an outfit, because people love it, and some people hate it, so it’s like the best of both worlds. And I thought, okay, if everything goes well, I’ll wear the goat necklace, I know people will go crazy about it», - Biles told reporters at a press conference after her victory on Thursday.
«And haters hate it, so I love it even more, and it’s just a special part of me that I have here. In the village, I have a stuffed goat as a reminder: 'You can go out there, you can do it, you’ve already done it, so let’s go'».
On Tuesday, after winning the team final, Biles brushed off her mind-blowing numbers.
«I don’t keep count, I don’t keep stats», - she said. «I just come here and do what I have to do, and do what I love and enjoy it, so that’s really all that matters to me».
She continued: «Yes, it’s amazing when I hear that, but I don’t think I really understand the depth of it until I leave the sport».
Biles emphasized: «[At] the end of the day, it’s crazy that I’m in the conversation of the greatest athletes of all time, because I still think I’m Simone Biles from Spring, Texas, who loves to flip».
Biles won the all-around competition for the second time, after previously winning gold at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She finished first with a score of 59.131, beating second-place winner Rebeca Andrade from Brazil by 1.199 points. Biles' teammate and the 2020 Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee won bronze with a score of 56.465
