Simone Biles received support from her family when she won her ninth all-around title. During her performance at the XFinity Championship over the weekend, Simone’s husband, Jonathan Owens, was seen supporting her during her floor exercises.
According to a video on social media posted by NBC Sports on Sunday, June 2, 27-year-old Simone effortlessly executed her acrobatic elements on the floor, securing her victory as she prepares for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. After the competition, Simone discussed her progress and confidence.
«I couldn’t be prouder of how I feel right now», - she told NBC. «Just gaining that confidence over and over again, putting myself out there in front of a crowd and just doing what I do in training».
Last month, Jonathan admired Simone’s skills in an Instagram post after another competition.
«I'm still in awe from last night. Another one!!!» captioned the NFL player in a carousel post showing him leaning in to kiss Simone. «You just never cease to amaze me, dear, I love watching you go and do your thing. I’m here with you every step of the way, wouldn’t miss it for the world».
Jonathan and Simone have been married since April 2023. By the end of that year, the football defender faced controversy over a comment he made on the podcast «The Pivot» about men being the «prey» in relationships. Jonathan quickly faced criticism from social media users, but Simone defended him during her appearance on the podcast «Call Her Daddy» earlier this year.
«At first I thought it was funny, and then [people] hurt my feelings», - said the Olympic champion. «One time I broke down and said, 'Why are you talking about my husband like that? You don’t know him. You don’t know who he is.' And if anyone has met him, they know he’s the kindest guy and will do anything for anyone».
Simone added that she can «forgive» some things, but for her, «Talk about me all you want, but don’t touch my family — ever», - she told host Alex Cooper. «I didn’t think anything of it in that interview, and he never said I’m not prey. He said he’s prey. Because that’s who he is»
