Six Flags has announced that it will be closing one of its parks: Six Flags America and its water park, Hurricane Harbor, announced CEO Richard A. Zimmerman in a statement. Calling it a «difficult decision», - Zimmerman noted that they «understand how this will impact» their guests.

«We are grateful to our park employees who work diligently to create unforgettable memories for our guests, and Six Flags is committed to supporting all affected employees during the closure process at the end of this year», - Zimmerman added.

Below you will learn why Six Flags America is closing and when.

Six Flags America and its water park, Hurricane Harbor, are located in Woodmore, Maryland. Advisor Wala Belgay called the upcoming closure «deeply disappointing» for residents of Prince George’s County in a public statement.

«This amusement park not only provided entertainment and memories for countless families, but was also an important partner in the community», - Belgay added.

According to NBC Washington, Belgay also noted: «Many people are very disappointed, sad, and confused about what is happening, and at the same time we are facing attacks on our federal workers, so people are losing their jobs. So there is a lot of news that people do not want to hear. We want to reassure people. People are very concerned that this will turn into a large residential complex — it is not zoned for housing. So we will focus on economic development as a key point».

Zimmerman explained that the closure of Six Flags America is part of reshaping their «park portfolio».

«As part of our comprehensive review of our park portfolio, we have concluded that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor do not align with the company’s long-term growth strategy», - Zimmerman said.

The park employs about 70 people, and the closure is expected on November 2, 2025. According to The New York Post, park employees will receive compensation.
