For many years, the story of Natalia Grace captivated the nation. The former Ukrainian orphan gave viewers a detailed look at her side of the adoption story in the ID documentary series «The Mysterious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks». This documentary film is a continuation of the ID series, in which her adoptive family accused Natalia of being an adult woman posing as a child who tried to harm them.
According to U.S. Sun, Kristine is the author and works as a professional speaker advocating for children living with autism. She is also the founder of Jacob’s Place.
During the ID documentary series, Natalia claims that Kristine was an unfit guardian and had other motives for adopting her. Natalia also spoke to E! and accused Kristine of using her.
«Kristine said that adopting me was a mission of love, and I never saw any love», - Natalia was heard saying in one of the show’s clips obtained by the publication. «I think it was a mission to boost her self-esteem. I think she just wanted people to say, 'Oh my God, she’s such an amazing person… She just adopted a little girl from Ukraine who has dwarfism and a lot of medical problems and all that. You know, she’s a great mom who wants to help someone, right?'»
Natalia described Kristine as someone with a different «mask» on. «But then, take off that mask — that’s who she really is, those are your true colors», - Natalia said. «Kristine was a monster. I didn’t know what she would do next».
In 2013, the Barnett family left Natalia in Lafayette, Indiana, alone when they moved without her. Kristine and Natalia’s former adoptive father, Michael Barnett, then faced criminal charges of neglect of a dependent in 2019. Despite the former couple successfully changing Natalia’s birth certificate to indicate she was born in 1989, not 2003, the Barnetts were still charged with multiple counts of child neglect.
Michael’s charges were dropped in 2022, and Kristine’s charges were dismissed in 2023.
Reports indicate that Kristine is now living in Florida after divorcing Michael in 2018
