There are many controversial reality TV stars, but perhaps the most talked-about case is the Chrisley family. Todd Chrisley and his wife Julie Chrisley, best known for their former show on the USA Network «Chrisley Knows Best», - have been in prison for almost three years after being convicted of tax evasion and bank fraud. Now, it seems that they will be granted release after a full pardon from Donald Trump.

Below, Hollywood Life breaks down Todd and Julie Chrisley’s case from start to finish, from what they did to when they are expected to be released from prison.

Todd and Julie are reality TV personalities who rose to fame by appearing on «Chrisley Knows Best» and later on «Growing Up Chrisley». The couple raises their children — Savannah, Chase, Lindsey, Kyle, and Grayson.

The family’s reality show became a hit mainly due to the national interest in Todd’s luxurious lifestyle and his strict parenting methods.

In August 2019, Todd and Julie were charged with tax evasion and conspiracy to commit bank fraud. They were accused of submitting false financial documents to obtain millions of dollars in loans. In June 2022, a jury found the couple guilty of tax evasion and defrauding banks of over $ 30 million in loans.

Todd and Julie maintained their innocence after the verdict.

Todd was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Julie was sentenced to seven years. Since their sentencing in November 2022, the couple appealed their case, but unsuccessfully. However, their prison terms were slightly reduced in 2023.

Yes, the president pardoned Todd and Julie in May 2025. Trump told the Chrisley children over the phone: «It's terrible, but it’s wonderful because your parents will be free and clear. Hopefully, we can do this tomorrow… I don’t know them, but please pass on my congratulations and best wishes».

Shortly after, Savannah confirmed on Instagram live that her parents had been granted a full pardon.

«My parents can start their lives over!» she exclaimed. «My phone is blowing up right now, but President Trump has given them a full, unconditional pardon, and for that, I am forever grateful. Thank you, President Trump».

Savannah added that over the past two and a half years, she «did everything in her power to fight for her parents' freedom and bring them home».

«This moment is an answer to countless prayers, and I am infinitely grateful to President Trump for seeing the truth and restoring my family», - said Savannah. «This administration does not hand out mercy. It examines the facts and defends what is right».

Savannah was a staunch supporter of Trump. She spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention to praise Trump.

It is unclear when Todd and Julie will be released from prison, but it should happen soon, as Trump has granted them a full pardon.

Todd is serving his sentence at FPC Pensacola in Florida, while Julie is at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Lexington, Kentucky.

Before being granted a full pardon by Trump, Julie was scheduled to be released from prison on January 8, 2028, according to data from the Bureau of Prisons as of May 19, 2025, as reported by the Palm Beach Post. Meanwhile, Todd was scheduled for release on April 7, 2032
