Scarlett Johansson is shutting down her cosmetics line, The Outset. On Monday, September 28, the brand’s official website announced the decision to cease operations, and the team expressed gratitude to everyone who supported them during this time.
The website also clarified that while online sales have ended, all existing orders will be processed as usual. Johansson launched her cosmetics brand in 2021, calling it a project she had dreamed of for a long time. She noted that she had been interested in the transformative power of beauty since childhood and that her mother instilled in her a love for self-care.
Co-founder Kate Foster added that they are proud to have created a brand that filled a gap in the market and met consumer needs. The brand offered a wide range of products, including serums, lip balms, cleansers, and masks, which were sold in stores like Sephora and Nordstrom.
In April 2025, Business of Fashion reported that Foster had left the company. The reaction from loyal customers to the brand’s closure was swift: many expressed dissatisfaction and concern over the lack of transparency in the shutdown process.
