Phil Robertson, patriarch of the Robertson family from Duck Dynasty, passed away on May 25, 2025. Several members of the Robertson family announced the news through social media. As fans mourn the late reality show star, many are also questioning the cause of his death.
Willie Robertson and his wife, Korie Robertson, wrote a joint post on Instagram, announcing the death of his father. Their caption read: «Today we celebrate that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord. He often reminded us of the words of Paul: 'Do not grieve like those who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him'».
Willie’s statement continued: «Thank you for the love and prayers of many whose lives were changed by his life, saved by grace, his bold faith, and his desire to share the joyful news about Jesus with anyone willing to listen. We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again. We know that many of you love him and have been changed by his life. While we have a private service, we will soon share details of a public ceremony in his honor».
Another son of Phil, Jase Robertson, also honored his father’s memory in a post that read: «My father went to the Lord today! He will be missed, but we know he is in good hands, and our family is okay because God is very good! We will see each other again! #PhilRobertson #Jesus».

Phil passed away at the age of 79. He celebrated his 79th birthday a month before his death.
The official cause of Phil’s death has not been immediately disclosed. However, his family had previously revealed a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease in December 2024. In addition, his son Jase also shared on his podcast «Unashamed» that Phil had «some sort of blood disease causing a lot of problems».
«He's not doing well. He’s really fighting», - Jase said on the podcast, adding that his father’s Alzheimer’s disease «has accelerated and is causing problems with his entire body».
Alzheimer’s disease is a neurodegenerative condition that progresses over time, affecting a person’s memory and eventually their ability to perform simple tasks. There is currently no cure for the disease.
Phil shared four sons with his wife, Miss Kay Robertson: Willie, Jase, Alan, and Jules Jeptha. In May 2020, it was revealed that Phil was also the father of a daughter named Phyllis Robertson Thomas from a relationship in the 1970s
