Def Jam Records expressed their condolences to his loved ones in a statement on Instagram on February 6, 2025.

Gotti (real name Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr.) co-founded the label Murder Inc. Records with his brother Chris Gotti, a division of Def Jam Recordings. Gotti left an indelible mark on the hip-hop genre of the music industry, working with Ja Rule, Ashanti, DMX, and other artists.

Throughout his music career, Gotti also used the pseudonym DJ Irv and produced several songs. He received credits for working with artists such as Jay-Z, Kanye «Ye» West, and Jennifer Lopez.

The cause of Gotti’s death is unknown, but according to THR, he had been suffering from strokes in recent years. Additionally, according to the publication, he had been dealing with issues related to diabetes.

Shortly before the news of Gotti’s death became known, Kyle Justice from AllHipHop stated that the deceased music producer had suffered a stroke that led to bleeding in the brain, citing WBLS. Record executive Russell Simmons shared a message on Instagram a day before Gotti’s death was reported. The post stated that Gotti had been placed on life support.

«I pray for Irv’s full recovery», - Simmons captioned his post. «Such a fun, inspired, kind man, so loved, people, keep praying. People my age and younger are seeing the effects of toxic food and a toxic environment, pray for our brother and try to make the necessary changes to your and your [families'] diets and lifestyles [sic]».
