Garret Anderson, the left fielder for the Los Angeles Angels, passed away on April 16, 2026. The team announced this the following day. He was 53 years old, and since the former MLB star was still young, many are questioning the reasons for his death.

«The Angels organization mourns the loss of one of the most beloved figures in our franchise, Garret Anderson», - said team owner Arte Moreno in a statement, according to MLB. «Garret was a cornerstone of our organization for 15 seasons, and his steadfast presence both on the field and in the clubhouse elevated the Angels to new heights of success, culminating in the 2002 World Series victory».

Moreno added, «Garret will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Angels fans for his professionalism, class, and dedication both on and off the field. His admiration and respect for the game were immeasurable. We extend our deepest condolences to Garret’s wife, Teresa, daughters Brianna and Bailey, son Garret 'Trey' Anderson III, and his entire family».

It is unclear whether Garret had any health issues prior to his death.

Garret married his first love, Teresa. The couple met in high school.

Garret officially retired from professional baseball in 2011, stating at the time that «it was a true privilege to play this wonderful game». Nearly five years later, in 2016, the Los Angeles native was inducted into the Angels Hall of Fame. In his speech, he emphasized that being a «good teammate» means a lot to many people in baseball.

«If you go out on the field and respect your teammates, support them, and show toughness when necessary, it matters a lot», - he said. «So for me, the biggest compliment was when people said I was a good teammate»
