Bob Uecker, the famous Milwaukee Brewers commentator, passed away at the age of 90 on January 16, 2025. During the 1950s, Uecker was a player for the Milwaukee Braves baseball team. After playing in the Minor Leagues, he eventually made it to the Major Leagues as a catcher in 1962. Over the next few years, Uecker was traded to several teams and played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, and Atlanta Braves during the 1960s.

After retiring from baseball, Uecker became a commentator for the Brewers in 1971, a position he held until 2024. MLB painted a full picture of Uecker’s career in their public statement following his death.

«After a six-year playing career with the Braves, Cardinals, and Phillies from 1962 to 1967, Uecker spent over half a century as the 'Voice of the Brewers,' starting in 1971», - the MLB statement read. «Uecker's self-deprecating humor drew a national audience to him. He appeared in popular movies, commercials, talk shows, and even had his own sitcom. As a commentator, he worked on national broadcasts, All-Star Games, and World Series. His dry wit and humor masked deep knowledge and passion for baseball, making him one of the best commentators of the game. Uecker, a member of the 1964 World Series Championship team, was the recipient of the 2003 Ford C. Frick Award and a five-time Wisconsin Sportscaster of the Year. He was 90 years old».

The official cause of Uecker’s death was not disclosed. However, his family revealed that he had been battling a form of lung cancer in a statement confirming his death on January 16, 2025.

«Bob fought a private battle with small cell lung cancer since early 2023, which he faced with the same strength and determination that defined him», - his family said, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. «Even in facing this challenge, his zest for life always shone through, never allowing his spirit to waver. He brought joy to countless listeners with his wit, charisma, and love for baseball, Milwaukee, and all of Wisconsin, creating a legacy that will be cherished forever. While his impact on the game is significant, it is his kindness, humility, and love for family and friends that we will hold closest to our hearts»
