Sabu was born as Terrence Michael «Terry» Brunk. Throughout his wrestling career, he used several stage names, including The Great Sabu, Terry S.R., and Sabu from the Jungle.
Sabu was destined for greatness, being trained by his uncle, Ed «The Sheik» Farhat, who is considered one of the first hardcore fighters. He is also known as The Original Sheik.
While many wrestlers tend to stay in one organization for most of their careers, Sabu was known for his time in many. After starting his career in Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling, Sabu continued to wrestle for Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) from 1993 to 2000. Later, Sabu signed a one-year contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) from 2006 to 2007.
Sabu last wrestled in April 2025 against Joey at Game Changer Wrestling.
Sabu kept details of his personal life away from the spotlight. His marriage to his ex-wife Hitomi ended sometime after their wedding in 1997. In the 2010s, he began dating Melissa Coates, a fellow wrestler. She passed away in June 2021 in her sleep due to complications from COVID-19.
