OG Maco gained recognition thanks to his debut single in 2014, «U Guessed It», - which was later remixed into a song featuring 2 Chainz. Originally from Georgia, the artist reached new heights in the rap industry, landing on the cover of XXL magazine’s 2015 Freshman issue.
The hip-hop artist also founded OGG (Originality Gains Greatness), a rap collective.
OG Maco passed away two weeks after being hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on December 12, 2024, according to TMZ. The publication reported that he was in critical condition, and doctors at a Los Angeles hospital were unable to save him.
On December 12, police responded to a 911 call in Los Angeles after a neighbor of OG Maco heard a gunshot. A firearm was found at the scene, according to TMZ. At the time, authorities did not confirm what led to the gunshot.
In 2019, OG Maco was diagnosed with a rare condition called necrotizing fasciitis: a bacterial infection that eats away at tissues and can quickly become life-threatening. In March of that year, the rapper revealed his rare condition in a series of messages and photos on Instagram Stories.
«I was misdiagnosed with a minor rash, and I contracted a skin-eating disease over the past few months», - OG Maco explained at the time.
In a separate video, OG Maco said he «didn't know what was going to happen» to him after receiving the diagnosis.
«I didn’t know if I was going to lose my whole face — I almost lost it», - he added, advising fans: «Necrotizing, or any kind of tissue-eating bacteria, if you ever encounter that, just keep the faith and follow the regimen that the doctors give you».
