Co-founder of The Beach Boys Brian Wilson passed away in June 2025, as announced by his family through Facebook. After the death of his late wife Melinda Ledbetter, Brian’s family filed for guardianship, while the musician, known for the song «I Get Around», was struggling with a neurocognitive disorder and reportedly taking medication for dementia. Brian’s family filed for guardianship in February 2024, citing a «serious neurocognitive disorder (such as dementia)» for the «Good Vibrations» singer, reports People.
«After the passing of beloved wife Melinda, following careful discussion and consultation between Brian, his family of seven children, Gloria Ramos, and Brian’s doctors (and in accordance with family processes established by Brian and Melinda), we confirm that long-time Wilson family representatives LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers will serve as joint guardians for Brian», - the family statement reads.
In their statement, Brian’s relatives explained that the decision «was made to ensure that there will be no major changes in the home, and Brian and the children living at home will be provided for and remain in the home where they are cared for by Gloria Ramos and the wonderful team in the home who have been helping care for the family for many years».
Furthermore, Brian’s family added that under guardianship he will still be able to «enjoy time with the entire family and friends, continue working on current projects, and participate in any events he chooses».
The publication also reported that Brian’s team stated that the record producer is currently «unable to properly provide for his personal needs in physical health, nutrition, clothing, or housing».
Throughout his musical career, Brian has faced several health issues. When he was just 11 years old, he was diagnosed with nerve damage, leading to deafness in one ear.
However, during an interview on ABC’s 20/20, Brian claimed that he was «born deaf». So it remains unclear whether Brian was born with a hearing defect or developed it.
The «Surf City» artist also struggled with mental health issues, experiencing a nervous breakdown in the 1960s, at the height of The Beach Boys' popularity.
