Cartoonist and creator of the comic strip «Dilbert», - Scott Adams, has passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was 68 years old. His ex-wife, Shelly Miles, announced his death on YouTube on January 13, 2026. «Unfortunately, this is not good news. He is no longer with us», - she said.

For several months, Adams shared information about his fight against cancer with fans and followers on social media. He spoke about his health issues in May 2025, shortly after it became known that former President Joe Biden had the same type of cancer.

Below, you can learn about what Adams went through in the last months of his life and more about his battle with cancer.

As mentioned, Adams was the creator of the famous comic strip «Dilbert», - which gained widespread popularity in the 1990s. First published in 1989, the comic satirically depicted office life under micromanagement through the character of an engineer named Dilbert.

Adams passed away after battling prostate cancer, which had quickly spread to his bones.

Part of Scott’s final message read: «Many of my Christian friends have asked me to find Jesus before I go… I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and look forward to…»

He announced his diagnosis in May 2025 during his podcast. «I have the same cancer as Joe Biden. I also have prostate cancer that has spread to my bones, but I have had it longer than he has—well, longer than he acknowledged», - Adams said at the time. «So my expected lifespan is possibly until this summer. I expect to leave this world sometime this summer».

By the end of that year, the cancer had spread to Adams’s spine, which forced him to use a walker.

In January 2026, Adams stated that he had «no chance» of a full recovery in one of the episodes of his show «Real Coffee with Scott Adams».

«I spoke with my radiologist yesterday, and it’s all bad news—my chances of recovery are virtually zero», - he noted. «I will give you any updates if anything changes, but it won’t… So I have no chance of regaining feeling in my legs, and I have heart issues, which sometimes make it difficult to breathe during the day. However, you should prepare for January to likely be a month of transition, one way or another».

A few days before his death, Adams told fans in an online chat on X.com that he had «long since passed his expiration date».

«You may notice that I am getting weaker and weaker», - he explained. «I was told that this is how I would know how much time I have left, by how tired I am and how much pain I am in… My fatigue and my pain are reaching their peak»
