The death of Lyndon «LB» Byers broke the hearts of hockey fans around the world, especially in Boston. The former NHL player and radio host passed away at the age of 61 on July 4, 2025, and Hollywood Life remembers him below with five key facts about Lyndon’s life and career.

Lyndon was the late cousin of former Canadian hockey player Dave Byers. Dave played for and captained the Manchester Storm before retiring in April 2019.

Before playing for the Manchester Storm, Dave played for several hockey teams, including the New York Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Hartford Wolf Pack, Springfield Falcons, San Antonio Rampage, Oklahoma City Barons, and Hershey Bears.

Lyndon was married to his wife, Annie Byers, and they had one child, a son. Annie confirmed her late husband’s death in a Facebook post in July 2025.

Apparently, Lyndon had been dealing with «health issues» before his death, as reported by the Boston Herald. The publication did not specify what exactly he was dealing with.

After leaving professional hockey, Lyndon joined a local radio show in Boston called «The Hill Man Morning Show». He eventually left his hosting duties in 2019.

According to Lyndon’s friend and former radio show colleague Greg Hill, LB was in the hospital about a month before his death, but the reason for his hospitalization is still unclear. Greg simply noted that he was «dealing with some issues».

«I am devastated by the loss of our friend, Lyndon Byers, over the weekend», - Greg began. «LB and I have been friends for 34 long years and colleagues on the same radio show for 23 years. So, there is a lot to talk about when it comes to LB».

Greg mentioned that they had invited LB to the radio show in February 2025, «and so he was celebrating his birthday. And I think about a month ago, I mentioned that I had talked to him, and he was in the hospital dealing with some issues».

«It's always a good lesson that when someone is not doing well, make sure you always reach out to that person because you never know», - Greg added
