Scott Wolf leaves the series «Doc» after the third season

In the premiere of the third season of the series «Doc», - which took place on September 22, the character Richard, played by Scott Wolf, officially left the project. In the episode, Ben (Blair Underwood) asks Amy (Molly Parker) about Richard’s whereabouts, to which she replies that he needed to start over and is currently on the East Coast.
Richard was introduced to viewers in the first season, and his storyline was complicated. Amy discovered that her colleague was guilty of a patient’s death and was planning to report it to the authorities, but she lost her memory as a result of a serious accident. In the finale of the second season, Richard confessed to his mistake, which ended his career at the hospital.
Executive producer Hank Steinberg stated that Richard will return to the series, and it will happen «in a very unexpected way». He added that the character will have «a completely different energy» than in the previous season. Fox confirmed that Wolf will return as Richard for a multi-episode guest arc.
Scott Wolf previously shared that he enjoys playing a complex character who finds himself in a difficult situation. He noted that «he was a very good person who could find himself in a similar situation to any of us». Wolf also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with Fox, with whom he began his career in «Party of Five» in the 1990s.
