Investigation receives new possible ransom note in Nancy Guthrie case
Investigators have reported a new possible lead in the case of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated in a release on September 28 that «the Guthrie investigation team, consisting of Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI personnel, has become aware of a new possible ransom letter related to the investigation of Nancy Guthrie».

Nanos added that investigators are also aware of comments on social media regarding this letter and are continuing to verify the information to determine its credibility. Nancy, 84, was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson on January 31. Police believe she was abducted from her home in the early hours of February 1. No suspects have been identified.

In July, the Pima County Sheriff released the contents of two alleged ransom letters sent to Savannah and her family in the days following Nancy’s disappearance. One letter, sent to local media on February 2, stated: «We have taken your mother, Nancy. She is safe but scared. She will be held for ransom, and after payment is received, she will be released unharmed». The letter demanded a ransom of $ 4 million in Bitcoin by 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, with a threat to increase the amount to $ 6 million if payment was not received by 5 p.m. on Monday, February 9.

In the second letter, addressed to the «Guthrie Family», - which was received on February 6, the alleged kidnappers claimed that Nancy had died. «We were not fully aware of the seriousness of her physical condition. We never intended to harm her; that was not our goal. She passed away shortly after being abducted. We believe it was related to heart issues. She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done would have changed the outcome», - the letter stated.

Earlier this month, Savannah mentioned her mother on the Today show, saying, «We just want our mom to come home so we can say goodbye properly».
