More than two years after the release of the second season, the team of the show «Euphoria» confirmed that they will begin production next year. While the series on HBO Max has become a fan favorite, the past two years have been full of difficulties for the actors.
Since the end of the season in February 2022, the cast has lost two members. Later that same year, it was announced that Barbara Ferreira was leaving the show. She shared on her Instagram story: «After four years of embodying the most special and mysterious character of Kat, I have to say goodbye with a heavy heart. I hope that many of you were able to see yourselves in her, like I did, and that her journey into the character she is today brought you joy. I poured all my care and love into her, and I hope you felt that. Love you, Katherine Hernandez».
In July 2023, Angus Cloud, who played Fezco, passed away from an accidental overdose. This led to deep sadness among the remaining actors — Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, and Storm Reid. The show’s Instagram account collaborated with HBO to honor the memory of the late 25-year-old actor with a post that said: «We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud. He was extremely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and 'Euphoria' family. We express our deepest condolences to his friends and family at this difficult time».
«Euphoria» is a series that addresses the theme of addiction, as shared by the 27-year-old former Disney star who played Rue at the FYC Emmy event for the HBO series at the Academy Museum: «I have a very emotional connection to her, because she means a lot to me, because she represents many people who need a lot of love. And she represents a part of myself, and she represents a part of Sam [the creator of 'Euphoria']. It is very important to me, and I just want people to be able to heal through her».
Despite the difficult year, the production team confirmed on their social media that they will begin filming next year. «Euphoria, season 3, will begin production in January 2025. @hbo @streamonmax».
