The group «Pogues» lost one of its members in the fourth season of the series «Outer Banks». The popular adventure series on Netflix confirmed that the fifth season will be its last. After the conclusion of the fourth season in November 2024, the star of the series Chase Stokes (who played John B.) shared an announcement about the fifth season from the creators of «Outer Banks» Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke on his Instagram page.
«Now, with a little sadness but also excitement, we leave behind the Fourth season and turn to the Fifth season, where we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home as we envisioned and planned many years ago», - the creators' letter read. «The fifth season will be our last, and we believe it will be our best season. We hope you will join us once again on the surf break».
At the moment, the release date of the fifth season of «Outer Banks» is not established. Last year, filming for the fourth season was postponed due to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Rudy did not leave «Outer Banks». During an interview with Netflix, the actor recalled the moment he found out his character would be killed off.
«When I found out that J.J. would risk everything and not survive, I understood it», - Rudy insisted. «The risks were getting bigger and bigger, and the stakes were getting higher and higher».
Describing his experience in OBX as a «huge honor to portray such a beautiful and selfless character», - Rudy added that J.J.'s death, while devastating for the Pogues and fans, raises the question: is it worth risking your life for treasure hunting?
«His death really raises the question of the future of OBX, is it worth it?» Rudy added. «And when someone so close to you leaves, how do you deal with it?»
It is unclear how resurrection is possible in the final season of OBX. However, countless fans have expressed their support for J.J.'s return, some pointing to Ward Cameron’s return in the third season. In the second season, Ward (played by actor Charles Esten) faked his death in a boat explosion. When it was revealed in the third season that he was still alive, the character received several bullets for his daughter Sarah (Madelyn Cline), giving the complex character an emotional farewell.
At the moment, J.J.'s death seems final. At the end of the fourth season, J.J.'s girlfriend Kiara (Madison Bailey) and the rest of the Pogues vow to avenge his death, apparently by killing Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane)
