«It was a very difficult decision because he is such an important part of the ensemble», - said Josh to Netflix. «It laid the groundwork for an epic fifth and final season. We plan a story of redemption and a season that embodies the friendship that JJ represented. JJ’s death was a difficult but necessary architectural element for the story, and we plan to honor it as much as possible because we love the character as much as his fans do. And Rudy — a great friend to us».
Rudy admitted that he «understood» the decision to kill off JJ from the show, calling it a «huge honor to portray such a beautiful and selfless character».
«When I found out that JJ was risking everything and not surviving, I understood it», - the actor said. «And the risks were getting bigger and bigger, and the stakes were getting higher and higher. From the very beginning, JJ always showed that he was willing to do anything. He put his friends above himself».
