Robert Carradine is mourned by his friends, former colleagues, and family following his untimely death. The actor, known for his role as Sam McGuire’s father in the Disney Channel series «Lizzie McGuire», - passed away at the age of 71 by suicide, as reported by his older brother, Keith Carradine.

«With deep sadness, we announce that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away», - Keith said in a statement published on Deadline. «In a world that can seem so dark, Bobby was always a beacon of light for everyone around him».

Hollywood Life has gathered five facts about Robert below.

Robert belonged to the famous Carradine family, which includes many well-known actors. His older brother Keith starred in series such as «Deadwood», - «Dexter», - «Fargo», - «The Big Bang Theory», - and «Madam Secretary».

Additionally, Robert’s daughter Ever Carradine has continued the family legacy by becoming an actress. Robert shared Ever with Susan Snyder.

For modern audiences, Robert was known for his role as Sam McGuire in «Lizzie McGuire», - where the lead role was played by Hilary Duff. She paid tribute to her late on-screen father after news of his death emerged in February 2026.

«It's very hard to come to terms with this reality about an old friend», - Hilary wrote in an Instagram post at the time. «There was so much warmth in the McGuire family, and I always felt cared for by my on-screen parents. I will be forever grateful for that. I’m so sad to learn that Bobby was suffering. My heart aches for him, his family, and everyone who loved him».

Robert had been acting since the early 1970s. His early roles included films like «Cowboys», - «Mean Streets», - «Bonanza», - «Kung Fu», - and many others.

Robert lived with bipolar disorder for two decades, as his older brother Keith reported in February 2026 when announcing Robert’s death.

«We are devastated by the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s courageous struggle with his nearly two-year battle with bipolar disorder», - Keith said in a statement. «We hope that his journey can shed light and help combat the stigma surrounding mental illness. At this time, we ask for privacy to mourn this incomprehensible loss. Thank you for your understanding and compassion».

Keith added that the Carradine family wants «people to know about Robert’s illness, and there is nothing shameful about it».

Unfortunately, Robert took his own life. After Keith announced the death of his younger brother, he wrote in his statement that bipolar disorder «took over», - and he wants to celebrate Robert’s struggle with it and his beautiful soul.

«He was a gifted person, and we will miss him every day», - Keith continued. «We will find comfort in how funny, wise, and absolutely accepting and tolerant he could be. That’s what my younger brother was like».
