Messages allegedly sent by Sean «Diddy» Combs to several women, including his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, were read during a court hearing on Wednesday, September 18. Prosecutors read the messages, claiming that Combs, 54, has a «longstanding pattern of violence».
According to various sources, Assistant United States Attorney Emily A. Johnson read a text that Combs allegedly sent to Ventura, 38, in 2016 shortly after he dragged and beat her in a hotel room — an incident that was captured on surveillance video and was revealed earlier this year.
«Call me. The police are here. I have six kids», - Combs allegedly wrote to Cassie, according to Johnson. «Hey, call me, please. I’m surrounded. Are you going to leave me alone?»
Johnson stated in court that Combs' reference to the police was inaccurate at the time he allegedly sent the message.
In response to Diddy’s message, Ventura allegedly wrote to him: «I have a bruise under my eye and swollen lips. You’re sick if you think what you did is normal», - Johnson read.
After the surveillance video of Combs beating Ventura surfaced earlier this year, he admitted to feeling «disgusted» with himself in an Instagram video.
«It's so hard to remember the darkest moments of your life», - Diddy said in the video posted in May. «Sometimes you have to. I was horrified. I hit rock bottom, but I’m not making excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable… I was horrified then, I’m horrified now. I sought professional help, went to therapy, to rehab. I had to ask God for mercy and grace. I regret it so much, but I commit to being a better person. Every day».
Combs and Ventura dated from 2007 to 2018. She filed a lawsuit against the rapper in late 2023, claiming she was subjected to years of sexual and physical violence during her relationship with Combs. Although they quickly settled their lawsuit, several people have come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against Diddy, and federal agents searched his homes in Miami and Los Angeles as part of a human trafficking investigation.
Currently, Diddy is being held at MDC Brooklyn after being charged with three felony counts of human trafficking, operating a criminal enterprise, and transporting for prostitution.
