Sofia Vergara reflected on motherhood, divorce, and relationships in a new interview. The 51-year-old actress explained why «relationships are difficult» for her after her split with ex-husband Joe Manganiello, noting that «everything» in relationships in the public eye can seriously affect anyone.
«Because everything becomes so exaggerated», - commented the star of the series «Griselda» during her interview with PEOPLE, published on Wednesday, May 1. «Sometimes everything is not interpreted correctly. So life is already hard. Relationships are difficult. Problems are difficult. And then to see it all out there and completely distorted, you want to ask, 'What's going on?' But you just get used to it. It comes with fame, so there’s nothing to complain about».
Sofia’s marriage to Joe, 47, ended because he wanted children, but she did not want more, as the «Modern Family» star previously revealed. Sofia currently shares her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, with ex-husband Joe Gonzalez. When asked about this in the new interview, the Netflix star noted: «There are things in life that may seem like a good idea, but they are not».
«I was already a mom», - she told the publication. «I know what it means to be a good mom or to try to be the best mom you can be, and it requires a lot of sacrifices, a lot of energy. Nowadays, thanks to science, women can have children at an older age. In the past, for some reason, nature told your body that at 50 you have menopause, it’s time to stop. There’s a reason why nature does that. But for me, and I fully respect where someone wants to be a mom after 50».
Sofia further explained: «I didn’t think that because of my career, lifestyle, my marriage it would be fair to bring a child into this world, and I wouldn’t be able to give 100 percent».
Joe and Sofia were married from 2015 until this year, when they were officially declared single. They announced their shocking divorce last summer, and «Magic Mike» actor began dating girlfriend Caitlin O’Connor. As for Sofia, the «New Year’s Eve» star has been dating her boyfriend Justin Saliman since late 2023.
