CEO Mark Zuckerberg is ending the «fact-checking» program at Meta in favor of «community notes». Instead of unbiased professionals fact-checking information online, users must now agree on how to evaluate content. The company has also immediately halted diversity, equality, and inclusion programs.
In January 2025, Meta employees received an internal memo about «plans to lay off up to 5 percent of its workforce». In the memo, Mark wrote: «I have decided to raise the bar on performance management and to fire underperformers more quickly. Typically, we fire people who do not meet expectations within a year, but now we will make more extensive cuts based on performance in this cycle», - reports The New York Times, which obtained the statement.
The memo also states that new employees will replace old ones this year. The memo explains that the reason for the upcoming layoffs is that Mark wants to have the «strongest talent» and give new employees a chance. He also noted that laid-off employees will receive «generous» severance packages. According to Bloomberg, around 72,000 people were employed in the company in September. 5 percent of this number is 3,600 people whose jobs are at risk.

Meta turned to X, formerly known as Twitter, to resolve the issues, and the company wrote: «[We] know that a technical issue is affecting some users' ability to access our apps. We are working to restore normal operation as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience».
