Former reality TV star Spencer Pratt has decided to try his hand at politics. A year after his home was destroyed in a catastrophic fire in Palisades, the 42-year-old Pratt announced his intention to run for mayor of Los Angeles, California. However, his political stance has caused confusion among local voters and residents of the country, as he has expressed support for Republicans while also receiving backing from Democrats. So, which party is he planning to run for mayor with?

For those who do not follow reality shows, Pratt is known for his participation in projects such as «The Hills», - «I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!», - «Celebrity Big Brother» in the UK, and many others. He earned a reputation as the «villain» of reality TV.

Pratt is married to his reality show co-star Heidi Montag. The couple has been married since 2008.

Long before his campaign, Pratt studied political science at the University of Southern California.

Throughout most of his campaign, Pratt has not taken a definitive side. Although he voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 election, Pratt insisted that he is an independent candidate.

«All my supporters in Los Angeles are Democrats», - he previously told CBS. «Everyone I know, my family—everyone is a Democrat». In a separate interview with NBC, Pratt stated that he does not belong to either side: «When you vote for Spencer Pratt on your ballot today or tonight, it will say Spencer Pratt, community advocate, because that’s how I identify myself. I do not represent a party. I have no campaign manager. I have no campaign consultants. I am not backed by any political party».

Nevertheless, Pratt eventually clarified that he is a Republican. In a CNN interview in May 2026, the Los Angeles native explained why he changed his status from independent candidate to Republican.

«When I was a hated reality star, I received so many death threats», - Pratt noted. «I had so much security and police, and what did they tell me to do? Buy a gun».

Pratt also stated that «the only ones who supported concealed carry permits were Republicans».

Nonetheless, Pratt is running for mayor of Los Angeles as an independent candidate.
