House Speaker Mike Johnson called on President Joe Biden to resign from the position of President of the United States after he declined to participate in the Democratic primaries in 2024. In a lengthy statement published on Sunday, July 21, Johnson, 52, called this situation «an unprecedented turning point in America’s history».
«The Democratic Party forced a Democratic candidate to leave the ballot just 100 days before the elections», - he wrote. «By violating the will of more than 14 million Americans who chose Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate for president, the self-proclaimed 'party of democracy' has proven the opposite».
Johnson also stated that «the prospects for Democrats are no better now with Vice President Kamala Harris, who is a co-owner of the catastrophic political failures of the Biden administration». He also called Harris, 59, who was supported by many Democrats, «completely incapable of handling the border» and «a joyful accomplice — not only in the destruction of American sovereignty, security, and prosperity, but also in the biggest political cover-up in U.S. history».
«She knew about his inability to serve longer than anyone else», - Johnson continued, addressing Harris. «Regardless of the chaos in the current White House, our adversaries around the world must remember that the U.S. Congress, the U.S. military, and the American people are fully prepared and obligated to defend our interests both at home and abroad. If Joe Biden is not fit to run for president, he is not fit to serve as president. He must resign immediately. November 5 cannot come fast enough».
Johnson has appeared on platforms with both Biden, 81, and Harris, including addressing the nation on the state of affairs in the country. However, Johnson has openly criticized Biden and Harris multiple times.
President Biden’s decision to decline participation in the 2024 elections came weeks after many public figures publicly called for his resignation. Many pointed to his age as a problem, but for a long time the politician insisted that he would not give up the fight against Donald Trump.
For his part, Trump, 78, also criticized Biden for declining to participate in the elections in a statement published on his Truth Social account.
«He was unfit for service from the very beginning, but people around him lied to America about his complete and final mental, physical, and cognitive decline», - claimed the Republican candidate. «Whoever the Left puts forward now, it will just be more of the same. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!»
