Nicholas Cage’s eldest son, Weston Coppola Cage, was reportedly arrested in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 10, on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. According to PEOPLE magazine, 33-year-old Weston surrendered himself to the police and was released on bail of $ 150,000.
The charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred on April 28 between Weston and his mother, Christina Fulton. According to reports, they had an argument which escalated into a physical altercation. The police also informed the publication: «During the incident, Cage struck two victims, causing them injuries. The Los Angeles Police Department arrived at the scene, and after meeting with all parties, a police report was filed».
The next day, Christina released a statement describing what she claims happened between her and Weston.
«On April 28, 2024, around 5:30 pm, I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage, about his deteriorating mental state, urging me to come help», - her statement read. «When I arrived to support and comfort him, he was already in a state of manic rage. Within minutes, I was brutally beaten and sustained serious injuries. Despite my desperate pleas to the police to detain him for psychiatric evaluation, they denied my request».
Nicholas and Christina welcomed Weston in December 1990. The former couple dated in the 1990s before parting ways after Weston’s birth.
Following the alleged conflict in April, Christina released a separate statement in May, disputing claims that she and her son had argued before the apparent confrontation.
«Contrary to their claims, Weston and I did not argue before the incident», - Christina’s statement, obtained by PEOPLE, read. «On Sunday, April 28, several of Weston’s closest friends reached out to me for help because they were dealing with Weston in a mental health crisis. I acted swiftly to ensure his safety. Upon my arrival, I was met by my son, who was clearly in a mental health crisis that turned into a horrific experience. I have always supported my son in his struggle with mental health issues. I am doing everything possible to provide him with the ongoing support he needs»
