Ayesha Curry and Steph Curry’s mother, Sonya Curry, were involved in a tense confrontation with French police after the US men’s basketball team won gold at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

In a video posted on X by The Hollywood Fix, 35-year-old Ayesha appears to wipe away tears as she tries to return to her car on Saturday, August 10. The incident seems to have occurred immediately after her husband’s victory in the gold medal match against France.

With her three-month-old son Canon Jack strapped to her chest and holding hands with her six-year-old son Canon Jack, Ayesha can be seen talking to the police for about three minutes, along with Sonya and Draymond Green, Steph’s teammate from the Golden State Warriors.

Although it is unclear what exactly happened during the confrontation, Sonya can be heard shouting that someone «touched the child» in the chaos. Green echoes her concern, as he is also heard in the video asking the police, «So, even after he hit the child on the head, you still can’t do anything to get them out of here?»

It is unclear what Green is referring to, as no physical altercation is captured on the video.

Sonya then urges Ayesha to join her, trying to pass the police to the group’s car. «She's right there where all those people are on the other side. We were there», - Sonya tells the police. «They're not letting us go back to where we came from. They’re not letting the driver come here, and they’re not letting us go back there».

A man who approached to translate for the police then apologizes on behalf of one of the officers, saying, «Sorry for the child». He then tries to defuse the situation, telling Sonya that «no one is allowed to cross this street right now», - apparently due to the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron.

This incident overshadowed what was supposed to be a celebratory moment for the Curry family.

The US team defeated France 98−87 to win the gold medal on Saturday at the Bercy Arena, thanks to Steph Curry. Steph, who became the first Olympic champion, scored 24 points to lead the American team to victory and secure their fifth consecutive gold medal
