Apparently, Saturday Night Live already has an actor for the role of Tim Walz, according to fans. After the selection of Kamala Harris as the vice presidential candidate was announced on Tuesday, August 6, the internet shared its idea for casting for the upcoming season of the comedy show: Steve Martin.
If the 78-year-old actor is chosen to play Walz, 60, on the show, he will be performing on stage and on screen alongside actress Maya Rudolph, who confirmed her role on SNL as Kamala, 59, during her campaign.
Social media users quickly heated up the atmosphere, with one tweeting: «SNL, call Steve Martin NOW». Betches also noted in an Instagram post: «Maya Rudolph will return to SNL this fall to once again play her iconic role as Kamala Harris, but Tim Walz suspiciously resembles another famous SNL alum. Steve Martin better work on his Minnesota dad voice, because if he doesn’t show up, we may never forgive him».
Others were not shy in supporting the choice of Steve, who has hosted SNL multiple times over the past few decades.
«So Steve Martin will definitely play Walz on SNL, right», - wrote one user. «Maya Rudolph and Steve Martin… Vibes, guys. MY HEART!!!» added another.
While fans await the official casting decision, many cannot wait for Maya, 52, to return as «Mamala» in the upcoming season of SNL, which premieres on September 28 on NBC. The actress from the movie «Bridesmaids» first appeared as Kamala in 2020 during the campaign against Donald Trump.
Among Maya’s most famous sketches as vice president was a reenactment of her debates with Mike Pence and between Jim Carrey and Alec Baldwin. In the latter sketch, Maya said, «Let Mamala handle it», - trying to take control of the funny situation between Donald and Joe on screen. She then ended the sketch by asking, «Now, where’s my martini?»
Earlier, Kamala expressed her emotions about Maya’s imitation. During an interview with Seth Meyers in 2019, the Democrat noted, «The thought that someone would even portray me on Saturday Night Live just blew me away. I will tell you, I fully intend to make sure she (Maya) has a full eight years on SNL»
