Unfortunately, the chances of seeing Fleetwood Mac have become even slimmer. Stevie Nicks revealed that she does not foresee the group returning after the death of Christine McVie in 2022. Stevie, 76, had not spoken about the future of the group after Christine’s death until a new interview with Mojo was published on Tuesday, June 18.
After discussing Christine’s departure, Stevie moved on to whether the group could continue performing after losing their keyboardist. «Without Christine, no one can», - she told Mojo. «There is no chance of bringing back Fleetwood Mac in any form. Without her, it just won’t work».
Fleetwood Mac’s last concert took place in November 2019 at Oracle Park in San Francisco as part of the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Benefit event. The group has undergone many lineup changes throughout their career, but the classic lineup is usually considered to include Stevie, Christine, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, and Christine’s ex-husband John McVie. Lindsey left the group after their last reunion in 2018.
Before Christine’s death from a stroke in 2022, Stevie admitted that she had plans to fly to see her. She acknowledged that Christine’s family dissuaded her from making the trip because they were unsure how much time she had left. She had some regrets about not seeing her friend in her final days. «I wanted to go there and sit on her bed and sing to her — which would have definitely hastened her departure», - she joked. «I needed to be with her. And I couldn’t do it. It was very hard for me. I couldn’t say goodbye».
After Christine’s death, Stevie posted a statement on social media to honor her. «She was the best musician you could have in your band, and the best friend you could have in your life. We were so lucky to have her in our lives. Individually and together, we deeply appreciate Christine and are grateful for the amazing memories. We miss her so much», - she wrote in part
