US students prefer high-protein snacks in dorms
According to a new study, the demand for high-protein products among college students in the U.S. has significantly increased. Information from the Campus Dining Index by Chartwells Higher Education indicates that 28% of students now prefer high-protein diets, which is a 36% increase compared to last year.

This change is already affecting the snack options available in dormitories and vending machines. Students are increasingly choosing products such as jerky, canned tuna, protein bars, and nuts. Mini-fridges now often contain Greek yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, and meat and cheese roll-ups. Brands like Quaker and Kodiak are offering high-protein oatmeal, making it a convenient option for a quick snack.

Three main factors contribute to the growing popularity of high-protein snacks. First, students are becoming more nutrition-conscious and understand that protein helps with muscle recovery and overall health. Second, protein helps to keep them feeling full longer, which is especially important for students with irregular eating schedules. Third, the availability of high-protein products, such as Greek yogurt, makes them convenient for quick snacks.

Demand for protein products is expected to continue rising over the next 12 to 18 months, which will influence the offerings in stores and the menus in college dining halls. Students can expect to see more high-protein snacks and menu changes aimed at meeting the growing demand.
