The court sentenced Tory Lanez to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the legs

Since Megan Thee Stallion began gaining popularity in 2016, fame was destined for her. Unfortunately, drama, controversy, and trauma went hand in hand with her success. After Megan accused fellow rapper Tory Lanez of shooting at her after an argument at a Hollywood party in 2020, he was found guilty by a jury in December 2022. On August 8, 2023, after two days in court, Tory was sentenced to ten years in prison.
«I wanted to handle this situation privately», - Megan said, speaking to Elle in their May 2023 issue. «That was my intention, but once my attacker made it public, everything changed. The shooting between Meg and Tory (real name: Daystar Peterson) took place in the Hollywood Hills area in July 2020, around 4:30 a.m. Tory and Megan were leaving a pool party hosted by Kylie Jenner. One of Megan’s friends and Lanez’s security guard joined them. An argument ensued, and Megan demanded to be let out of the car. Later, she told the police that Tory shot at her as she was leaving.
Initial reports claimed that authorities were called to the scene after shots were fired in the air as a result of an argument in the house. Witnesses told TMZ that an SUV in the same area sped away after the incident. After the police received a description of the vehicle, they found it and discovered both Tory and Megan inside.
Footage taken at the scene showed Megan getting into the back seat of a police car with bleeding feet. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment after injuring her foot by stepping on «multiple pieces of broken glass», - but later she said that was what she told officers because of George Floyd. Minneapolis police killed Floyd just two months before the Lanez-Stallion incident, and Megan was concerned about the safety of others. Tory was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon in the car.
Less than two weeks after the incident, Megan went live on Instagram and said she was «shot… in both feet, and I had to have surgery to get the sh*t taken out, to get the bullets taken out. And it was super scary». She did not name her shooter, but shared that she was traumatized by the incident. «Oh my God, I didn’t think I was going to cry. But yeah, I had to get surgery, it was super scary. Just the worst experience of my life. And it’s not funny. There’s nothing to joke about. There’s nothing to make up stories about», - she told fans.
Fans online quickly mocked Megan through memes and tweets. They doubted that she was actually shot, defended Tory, and mocked her confession. Online hate became too heavy a burden for her. In August, she went live on IG to accuse Tory. «Yes… Tory shot me», - she said, addressing him directly. «You shot me. And you sent your publicist and your people to these blogs to lie and sh*t… stop lying».
