Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan talked about their new series «Carrie». In an interview for «Extra», - Summer shared details about the audition process and how she received a call from Mike Flanagan, as well as explained why she decided not to watch the original and not to read the book before taking on the role.
Summer plays the lead role, which was previously portrayed by Sissy Spacek. She noted that she did not feel pressure, as she decided to «go into the role blind» and create her own version of the character. According to her, it took «many months» before she learned that she had been cast. Summer received the call confirming her casting on April 1. She noted that Mike was unaware that it was April Fool’s Day, as he is very busy.
Samantha talked about how the relationship between mother and daughter is the foundation of the series and about creating a new image of Margaret, who, according to her, starts as a «loving mother» to Carrie. Speaking about how they built chemistry between the characters, Samantha noted that they had a rehearsal process and quickly found common ground.
Although 50 years have passed since the release of the original film, some themes remain relevant today. Summer emphasized that the main message of their show is to spread kindness instead of cruelty, especially in light of the fact that bullying has only intensified with the rise of social media.
