On Sunday, February 9, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles will face off in the 59th Super Bowl. Additionally, the halftime show, featuring Kendrick Lamar in a leading role, is expected to be a performance you won’t want to miss. The first Super Bowl took place on January 15, 1967 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. According to the NFL, the first championship game of the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC) had 65 million viewers, was broadcast on two networks, CBS and NBC.

The term «Super Bowl» officially began to be used only in 1969. At the time of the 1967 game, it was simply called the AFL-NFL Championship Game.

Super Bowl I had a halftime show, but it was very different from the high-production performances we see today. From 1967 to 1969, halftime mainly consisted of performances by college and high school marching bands, as well as local artists.

According to The Washington Post, the first celebrity halftime show performance at the Super Bowl took place in 1970 and included Margarita Piazza, Doc Severinsen, Ella Hirt, Lionel Hampton, and the Southern University marching band.

Several sports publications favor the Kansas City Chiefs in the fight for a third consecutive Super Bowl title.

The Chiefs won in Super Bowls 2022 and 2023, with Travis Kelce’s famous performance of «Viva Las Vegas» after their last victory.
