Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is getting closer to becoming a reality on the big screen! In addition to major cast announcements for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the start date for filming has already been set. According to Soap Central, the Production Bulletin update states that filming will begin in January 2025, with the premiere scheduled for June 2026. The filming will take place in London and an undisclosed location in Iceland. The film will be based on the 2022 comic series of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

James Gunn (Marvel's «Guardians of the Galaxy» franchise) will serve as a co-producer alongside Peter Safran, with Craig Gillespie («I, Tonya») as the director. Gunn and Safran were appointed as heads of Warner Bros. DC Studios back in 2022. As for plot details, which are currently being kept under wraps, producer Gunn gave fans a tantalizing piece of information in 2023. «We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised in a loving family from birth, and Supergirl, who grew up on a rock torn from Krypton, witnessing everyone around her dying horrifically during the first 14 years of her life, and then coming to Earth», - he told reporters then, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

And now, the casting of the epic film is adding even more star power with Jason Momoa from «Aquaman». Learn more about each member of the cast and their roles below.

«House of the Dragon» star Millie Alcock was chosen for the highly coveted lead role in early 2024, and Gunn expressed his decision on social media. «Millie was the FIRST person I mentioned to Peter [Safran] for this role, over a year ago, when I first read the comics», - he wrote in a thread on January 30. «I watched 'House of the Dragon' and thought she might have the style, grace, and authenticity we need for the DCU Supergirl. And here we are. Life is sometimes wild».

Melissa Benoist, Arrowverse’s own Supergirl, also shared her thoughts on the casting. «I think any interpretations of the character are valuable because of what she represents», - she told Screenrant in March 2024. «Supergirl as a character has been an icon since the 50s. I personally think that every interpretation of her is valuable for young women, and I hope that with each interpretation, someone will see themselves in her».

Deadline confirmed on December 30, 2024, that Momoa («Game of Thrones», - «Aquaman») will play the anti-hero Lobo. Momoa shared this important news on Instagram the same day, calling Lobo the «perfect role». «So, Lobo was… I collected comics, and I don’t really do that anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I was like, 'Hey? This is the perfect role,'» he said.

In a statement, he continued: «I mean, listen. If they call me and ask me to play him, it’s a 'yes, of course.' I haven’t gotten that call, so I don’t want to spread false news, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’ll be there». Momoa jokingly captioned the post on Monday: «They called».

According to the official DC Comics biography, Lobo is an alien bounty hunter and the Last Czarnian. Having sided with both good and bad guys in the past, he has crossed paths with the Justice League and Superman, among others.

In September 2024, Matthias Schweighöfer («Resistance», - «The Bone and the Rust») was cast as the villain Cream from the Yellow Holm, according to Deadline. In King and Evely’s comic, Cream kills the young alien’s father, who then turns to Supergirl for help in achieving justice. Schweighöfer, originally from Belgium, has previously appeared in «Red Sparrow», - «The Danish Girl», - and «The Old Guard».

«Three-Body Problem» star Eve Ridley was confirmed by Deadline in October 2024 to play Ruthie Mary Noll in the film. In King and Evely’s comic, Ruthie, a young alien, turns to Supergirl for help
