Nick Rayner, the son of the late director Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner, was arrested in connection with their deaths in December 2025. According to several sources, 32-year-old Nick was taken into custody by the police the morning after his parents were found dead in their home in Los Angeles.
While the investigation is ongoing and Nick is suspected of involvement in the alleged murders of his parents, many are curious about his past, including his relationships with Rob and Michelle, as well as his drug addiction, which he opened up about around ten years ago.

In 2015, Nick told People magazine that he had been homeless several times in different states due to his addiction.
«I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas», - Nick recalled. «I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It wasn’t fun… If I wanted to do everything my way and not go to the programs that were offered to me, I had to be homeless».
Despite the hardships, Nick noted that his experience «made me who I am today, forcing me to deal with those issues».
«I met incredible people there, so far from my usual life», - he added in an interview. «I've been home for a long time now, and I’ve kind of gotten used to life in Los Angeles and being with family again. But there were many dark years».
Nick also opened up about his complicated relationship with Rob and Michelle in an interview for BUILD Series in May 2016.
«It really became clear to me because we didn’t bond much during my childhood», - Nick explained. «[My father] loved baseball, I love basketball, and he could watch baseball with my brother. But when I saw him doing [directing], it was something that interested me, and I thought, 'Wow, he really knows a lot.' That brought us closer».
Rob and Michelle confirmed their son’s words in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in September 2015.
«When Nick told us that it wasn’t working for him, we didn’t listen», - admitted the director of «When Harry Met Sally…» at the time. «We were desperate, and since people had diplomas on the walls, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son».
Michelle also confessed, «We were so influenced by those people. They told us he was lying, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them».
