Talarico won the primaries and is preparing for the Senate elections

Democratic Representative from Texas James Talarico successfully won the 2026 primary elections, defeating his congressional colleague Jasmine Crockett. Now, having secured the Democratic nomination for the Senate, he is still waiting to see who will be his opponent from the Republicans. After the elections for Attorney General Ken Paxton and Senator John Cornyn required a runoff, voters are wondering who Talarico will be up against this spring.
Talarico asserts that the main issue in the country is not the divide between «left» and «right», - but rather the separation between «top» and «bottom».
«Billionaires want us to look at each other instead of looking at them», - Talarico explains on his website why he is running for the Senate. «The people at the top do everything they can to keep us angry and divided because our unity threatens their wealth and power. That’s why their news channels and social media algorithms keep us apart. They divide us by parties, races, genders, and religions so we don’t notice how they are cutting funding for our schools, destroying the healthcare system, and lowering taxes for themselves and their wealthy friends. This is an old strategy: divide and conquer. But we will not be defeated».
While Talarico aims to help Democrats turn Texas «blue», - stay tuned for updates on who he will be facing.
Talarico is currently 36 years old. He will turn 37 on May 17, just a few days before the Republican primary elections.
Talarico defeated Crockett by nearly 7 percentage points: he received 52.8 percent of the votes, while she garnered 45.9 percent.
Talarico’s Republican opponent has yet to be determined. The runoff election between Paxton and Cornyn will take place on May 26.
Although Cornyn’s chances initially seemed slim, the results of the primary elections showed that he has a slight edge. Cornyn received 41.9 percent of the votes, while Paxton received 40.7 percent
