Tyler Perry and Gelila Bekele: A Love Story and Co-Parenting Journey

Tyler Perry was in a relationship with his former partner Gelila Bekele for over ten years, and they continue to be friendly co-parents to their child.
In December 2020, Tyler announced that he was officially single. He posted on Instagram stating that he was going through a «midlife crisis». He explained that at «51 years old, he is single and wondering what the next stage of his life will look like. No matter how it looks, I will walk with God, strive to be the best father and man, keep my head high, and try to look my best!»
Gelila appears to be just as passionate and driven as her former partner. She is a «dedicated advocate for young girls' rights to equal opportunities in her native Ethiopia, as well as on a global level», - according to her website. In her activism, Gelila focuses on women’s and girls' rights, access to clean water, and education. In 2019, she produced the documentary «Anbessa», - which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2019.
In addition to her successful career as a director and activist, Gelila also works as a model with some of the world’s largest brands. She began her modeling career in 2006, collaborating with Ford Models in New York and Paris. She is currently represented by Elite Model Management in the U.S. and Premium Models in Paris. Gelila has worked with renowned designers such as Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Anna Sui, as well as brands like Levi’s and Pantene.
Gelila has achieved significant success in her career. If her work in film, the modeling industry, and activism is not impressive enough, she is also a published author. Her debut book «Guzo!» was released in 2018 and tells the story of a day in the life of six tribes in Ethiopia.
Reports indicate that Tyler and Gelila met at a Prince concert and began dating in 2009. Five years into their relationship, the couple welcomed their son Aman, who was born on November 30, 2014.
