Team USA won in women’s gymnastics for the fourth time in a row

The US team won the gold medal in women’s gymnastics for the fourth consecutive time. After Simone Biles completed an incredible performance on the mat on Tuesday, July 30, she joined her teammates — Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Grace McCallum, to wait for the final score. The team scored 171.296 points. Italy won silver, their first team medal in almost 100 years, and Brazil won bronze, their first team Olympic medal in history.
Now that the US team has won gold again, 27-year-old Simone has become the most decorated gymnast in United States history, surpassing Shannon Miller’s record. Although the gymnastics queen is still only in her 20s, she has set a new record — becoming the oldest American gymnast to win a gold medal.
After receiving the team’s final score, all five gymnasts performed in front of the American flag for photos, while the room erupted in applause. The US and Italian teams also found time to congratulate each other.
The epic victory came three years after Simone and Suni, 21, competed at the Tokyo Olympics, where Simone had to withdraw from the competition due to the «twisties». «We didn’t think I was going to be here», - Suni said during an appearance on TODAY earlier this month. «So going through all these events and … everything we had to go through this week to be where we are now, it was just such a tough, incredible journey».
