Teddi Mellencamp has been openly sharing her battle with melanoma since she first announced her diagnosis in 2022. In February 2025, the reality star from «The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills», - who has undergone several surgeries, revealed that doctors had found multiple tumors in her brain. In April, she confirmed that her cancer had progressed to stage four.
On April 2, she shared a health update on Instagram Stories while lying in bed and thanked her fans for their support. «I woke up and saw so many kind messages», - she said. «I just want to say a huge thank you. So many messages about how strong I am. And I have to say that some days I feel really strong, and some days I feel very sad and lonely. I think that’s a normal part of what each of us goes through, and that’s okay. Stage four cancer can be scary».
Mellencamp previously described her skin cancer diagnosis as a «wake-up call», - admitting that she never used sunscreen or checked her moles until she turned 40. She urged her followers to take their health seriously, saying:
«The moral of the story is: if your doctor says, 'come in every three months,' please come in every three months. I really wanted to ignore that. 'What could happen in three months?' I thought. Turns out, a lot», - she shared on Instagram in October 2022. She also expressed her desire to «share this journey», - explaining that as a teenager in the '90s, she used baby oil and iodine to tan.

Mellencamp was diagnosed with stage two melanoma in March 2022. She shared that a spot on her back was removed after her friend Kyle Richards suggested she get it checked, as it looked like skin cancer. She also showed photos of the spot and how it looked after removal. «I'm trying to stay present and positive while heading to filming today. Grateful to be busy so I don’t think about the bad while waiting for results», - she wrote at the time. «I find strength in being honest with all of you, and I hope this helps others. Please let this be a reminder to take care of your skin».
In October 2022, the television host announced that she had been diagnosed with melanoma again in an Instagram post that included a photo with a bandage. «Melanoma update», - she wrote in the caption. «Despite my anxiety, I listened to the doctors and had a three-month skin check last week after my previous melanoma. They said I have another abnormal spot next to the previous one, so they did a biopsy. I got a call this morning: stage two melanoma».
«Now next Wednesday, I’m going to the oncologist to have it removed and to develop a plan moving forward», - she continued. «Of course, it all depends on additional tests and biopsies of other spots that were taken today».
She also addressed her followers in Instagram Stories to provide an additional update at the same time. «I just finished my workout and got a call from the doctor that another spot turned out to be melanoma, and they asked me to come in right now. So here I am», - she said, holding back tears in the video. «I'm facing my fears and trying to keep up with these doctor visits, and I will keep you updated. It’s very important. Check your skin».
In total, Mellencamp had to have 12 melanomas removed over eight months following her initial diagnosis in March 2022.
Melanoma is a «type of skin cancer that develops when melanocytes (the cells that give skin its tan or brown color) begin to grow uncontrollably», - according to the American Cancer Society. The site also states that melanoma «is significantly less common than some other types of skin cancer», - but this makes it «more dangerous because it is much more likely to spread to other parts of the body if not caught and treated early»
