The body of Naomi Pomeroy was discovered four days after she drowned in an accident on an inflatable ring.
On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office released an update to announce that Pomeroy’s body was found on the Willamette River, about half a mile above Hyak Park between Corvallis and Albany, Oregon. The update stated that canoeists on the river noticed the body and called 9−1-1, and later it was confirmed to be Pomeroy.
Marine deputies quickly arrived at the scene and found Pomeroy, 49, on a «shallow limestone outcrop in the middle of the river with water depths of one to two feet».
«Deputies transported Naomi to the morgue and notified her family of the discovery», - authorities said.
Pomeroy went missing on Saturday after a day on inflatable rings in Corvallis, Oregon, with her husband Kyle Linden Webster and another person.
The restaurateur had a leash attached to a SUP board when he got tangled on a «protruding branch in the water», - the police department reported on Tuesday.
«One of the adults, Naomi, was pulled under water and could not free herself due to the leash for the SUP board», - police said.
BCSO stated that Pomeroy became the first drowning victim this year. In their initial statement, they advised people to refrain from attaching themselves to a SUP board if they do not have a quick-release leash, as «rivers are inherently dangerous due to currents and hazards».
Oregon Congressman Earl Blumenauer expressed condolences for the tragedy on Monday.
«What a loss. Naomi was not only a fantastic chef and entrepreneur, but an amazing person. Her influence extends far beyond Portland, helping to establish our leadership and reputation in the culinary arts. She will be greatly missed», - Blumenauer said.
The official Top Chef account honored Pomeroy on Tuesday.
«The Bravo family and Top Chef extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of chef Naomi Pomeroy», - the message on the account read. «Naomi was a powerful chef who left an indelible mark on the culinary industry»
