Just a few days after the finale of the fifth season was released on streaming and in theaters, a theory called «Conformity Gate» spread on social media, claiming that Episode 9 would still be released. So, how true is this theory, or is it completely unfounded?

The «Conformity Gate» theory went viral online, asserting that a new episode of the fifth season of «Stranger Things» would be released.
Reported mainly on TikTok and X.com, fans claimed that «Conformity Gate» arose from viewer criticism regarding how the Duffer brothers concluded the show.
Many noted that in one of the final scenes, the main characters arranged their books to spell out the letters «XALIE», - which fans believe means that the Upside Down is a lie. These conspiracy theorists thought that the finale occurred only in Vecna’s mind and, therefore, was not real.
«The entire 'Stranger Things' fanbase is currently in a collective psychosis, coming up with a theory called 'Conformity Gate' as a coping mechanism because the Duffer’s script was really THAT bad», - one user wrote on Twitter.
Other critics also commented on the creative decisions in the final season. One user on X wrote: «It's funny how the Duffer’s inability to write a satisfying conclusion and reliance on 'we left it to the viewers' led fans to desperately believe in the existence of a secret final episode that clearly doesn’t exist».
